Robert Bruce Design was established in 2001 as a small architect’s practice based in Edinburgh. Working closely with clients on mostly domestic conversions, alterations, extensions and new builds we endeavour to find creative and sensitive solutions to clients’ needs.
Completed projects in Scotland have been in and around Edinburgh, in Perthshire, Ardnamurchan and on Barra. More recently we have taken on projects in London and further afield.
Robert Bruce graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1992, having developed an interest in architecture on an art foundation course at Chelsea School of Art in London. He went on to gain a wide range of experience working for two prominent Edinburgh practices, working mostly on private and commercial restoration and alteration projects. Experiences of different kinds came in New Zealand working for a large landscape architects firm while working on conceptual design and master planning projects In Auckland, Wellington and Queenstown.
The practice does not subscribe to a prescriptive house “style”. We believe that each project should be a unique and sensitive response to client’s needs as well as the demands put on the design by historical and geographical context, climate and budget constraints.
We value listening to and delivering what clients have asked for and making them aware of ideas and solutions that they had not initially considered. Depending on budget and other constraints clients can then make an informed decision on how best to proceed.
